Finding the interplay between tradition and innovation.
Katy Jalenak Levit is a Washington State based artist who creates whimsical, hand-woven sculptures out of waxed linen thread. Using traditional basket weaving techniques, she expands the medium into the realm of sculptural fine art. Her work is inspired by her musings about nature, the intricacies of family life, mental health, and American culture. She always explores her art with curiosity, warmth, and a sense of humor. In addition to creating art, Katy teaches weaving, cultivating a community of makers around a medium most people have never encountered in this form. Her work has been featured in Fiber Art Now Magazine and is held in private collections throughout the United States.
